  • Whitmarsh: McLaren intent on adding to title tally in 2012

Running a team with a record of success like McLaren's is no picnic. After a difficult season there is no place to hide, so it helps to be someone who considers the glass half full rather than half empty. Luckily for McLaren, team principal Martin Whitmarsh is a born optimist. Six victories in 2011 was good, but he wants more in 2012. Ahead of next week's launch of the new MP4-27, Whitmarsh speaks exclusively to Formula1.com

  • Fernandes: First point Caterham's 2012 target

Caterham boss Tony Fernandes has admitted he will be a happy man if his team can score their first world championship point this season, after their new CT01 challenger was officially revealed to the public on Thursday. Caterham's best 2011 race placing was 13th, a result they achieved in Australia, Monaco and Italy, but with the addition of KERS just one of several factors set to lift their performance in 2012

  • Gascoyne: Caterham aiming for midfield in 2012

Pre-season testing is yet to begin, but Caterham already have a fixed idea about where in the constructors' standings they want to end the year. As their 2012 car was officially unveiled online on Thursday morning, chief technical officer Mike Gascoyne made it clear that the team are optimistic of stepping into the midfield with the help of the newly-launched CT01. “Until we run the car, we only have numbers and simulation data to work with,” Gascoyne said in an interview with the team, published on their official Facebook page. “But every team wants to move up the grid and we're...

  • Q&A with Caterham's Mike Gascoyne

Last year, as Team Lotus, they finished tenth in the standings in their second season of Formula One competition. This year Caterham are hoping to take a significant step forward. With a stable design team, Renault power, Red Bull's gearbox technology and - for the first time - KERS, chief technical Mike Gascoyne is optimistic the CT01 should allow Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli to take the fight to the midfield, as he explained in an interview with the team

  • Alonso and Massa head to training camp ahead of Ferrari launch

While Ferrari's engineers put the finishing touches to the Italian team's 2012 car ahead of its launch and test debut next month, drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa will be intensifying their own preparations at a pre-season training camp in the Canary Islands. Alonso and Massa spent Tuesday at the Italian's team base in Maranello having seat fitting in the new Ferrari and meeting team principal Stefano Domenicali and other engineers to discuss the car's development. They will now jet off to the island of Lanzarote for a spot of physical training, alongside Ferrari young drivers Jules Bianchi and Davide Rigon.

  • Caterham reveal first glimpse of 2012 car

Caterham have become the first team to unveil their 2012 car after issuing a picture of the CT01 via their official Twitter account on Wednesday. The team had originally intended to unveil their new challenger on Thursday, on the cover of February's F1 Racing magazine, but with some subscribers receiving their copies a day earlier, Caterham decided to release a sneak preview.

  • Pirelli targeting even more entertainment with 2012 tyres

Ahead of their second season as F1's sole supplier, Pirelli have presented the new tyres that will be used in 2012. Their key characteristics are squarer profiles, increased grip, and softer, more competitive compounds with consistent degradation. Pirelli's objective is to ensure entertaining races that remain unpredictable all the way to the chequered flag, with two to three pit stops per race, a strong emphasis on team strategies, and a less marked performance gap between compounds

  • Raikkonen wraps up private Lotus test on a high

After two years away from the cut and thrust of Formula One racing, Lotus's Kimi Raikkonen would be forgiven for being a little rusty in the cockpit. But following two days of reacclimitisation in a 2010-spec Renault at a specially-arranged test in Valencia, Raikkonen is raring to go and feeling optimistic about his comeback this season. The 2007 world champion wrapped up his final day in the R30 on Tuesday, completing 91 laps of Spain's Circuito Ricardo Tormo. Over the two-day test he covered 666 kilometres, the equivalent of more than two Grands Prix race distances.
